Flowers are in small bundles, white, with five corolla lobes.
Plants are disturbed in open sites in undisturbed habitats. Often found along roads and rivers and alluvial sites, but also on hillsides and ridges. On sandy soils, but also on limestone.
Rasped stem used to dye gourds. Fresh fruits used medicinal (antihelmintic) against worms.
Origin South and Central America, but now cultivated and invasive in tropical Asia.
