Solanum colombianum occurs in northern South America from western Venezuela to northern Peru, in moist habitats, often in rich organic soils, in sunny openings in woods or at forest edges, or among shrubs, often in disturbed habitats such as streamsides or roadsides or landslides.
Solanum can growe to 2 m tall. Fruit is about 3 cm long,and 2.5 cm wide, medium to deep green when ripe. The green fruits are not edible.
Solanum grows best in full sun or light shade. The soil should be moist but well-drained.
