The Banana Legs Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is an extraordinary and visually striking tomato variety that truly lives up to its name. Its fruits are bright yellow, elongated, and shaped like small bananas, making it an eye-catching addition to any vegetable garden or salad bowl. Also known as the Sausage Tomato, this unique variety combines beauty, productivity, and excellent taste.
🌸 Plant Characteristics and Origin:
‘Banana Legs’ was first bred in the United States by John Swenson in 1984, using crosses developed by the famous tomato breeder Tom Wagner, creator of the legendary Green Zebra tomato. Since its introduction, it has become a favorite among hobby gardeners worldwide for its reliability and high yields. It is also known as a parent of the newer Striped Roman variety.
This indeterminate tomato plant grows vigorously, easily reaching over 2 meters in height, and can produce up to 40 kilograms of fruit per plant with proper care. The fruits measure around 10 cm in length, featuring thick, meaty flesh, few seeds, and a slightly pointed end. These characteristics make it perfect for salads, sauces, and tomato paste.
